Artist Statement

In the television documentary, 'Sprayed Conflict', John Duel described his relationship to graffiti art as a 'pure art adventure'.

As one of Melbourne's pioneering graffiti artists of the early 80s, Johnny 'Duel' started his art life on the walls and trains of Melbourne in 1983.  

        As his style developed his focused on advancing his letter form into a unique complex interlocked wildstyle form for which he has become renowned.  Today, his style is known around the world for its multi dimensional form and complex colour detail which he developed further into a series of large, 3D, mixed media graffiti sculptures.

        He featured in the renowned graffiti art television documentary, "Sprayed Conflict", which featured at a number of film festivals.  

        He has painted commissioned and personal murals throughout Melbourne and nationally throughout Australia.  He has exhibited in Melbourne and interstate art festivals, as part of Hardware Lane's showcasing of Australian graffiti artists and at a selection of galleries.  His works can be viewed at www.duelsart.com.
